You may have seen numerous image management applications in your time, and it's true that there's no shortage of them on the Internet, but even so, Eagle is something you still want to try out. It's lite, it's fast, and it's certainly convenient. The software is intended mainly for keeping design elements organized in a library. Although there's nothing stopping you from using it to sort your pictures library, you will witness its full potential if you let it help you sort your illustrations, logos and other design elements. Logic and efficiency will dictate how your content will be organized.

The software is free to try for a limited time, without any noticeable restrictions. It's compatible with Windows 7 and all later versions, but it only supports the 64-bit editions. Downloading and installing the software is not a challenging task, and it only takes a few seconds to complete. Also, there are no special software or hardware requirements you have to meet.

If you've ever used an image manager before, you will feel right at home with Eagle because it doesn't do anything different in terms of appearance. You can import images into your library just by dragging and dropping the files. They are displayed in the central region of the user interface, and you may create folders to sort them, on the left side of the window, and view some basic info about selected items on the right side. Of course, you can also tag your images, attach descriptions and web links in the same area.

There's a lot to be said about Eagle's filtering capabilities. Besides the usual criteria you're used to, like date, size and so on, you can also locate content by dimension and shape. However, a feature that's even more impressive is the possibility of filtering content by color. Simply select a color, in the upper-left part of the image browser, pick a color, and the program will immediately display all items that contain said color. Also, when you select a picture, the software will show you its predominant colors on the right side of the interface, and you can click them to reveal similarly-colored elements. This is why Eagle is particularly useful for managing design elements, which usually have solid colors that make them easy to filter. If you want to apply a certain color tone to the website you're working on, you can find all the elements you need at a moment's notice.

Not only can you combine various filters to locate items of a specific shape and color, but you can also use them to create smart folders. They are automatically populated with content that meets certain criteria. What's more, you may create more than one rule and have the program gather images if all or any of them are met. You can have multiple folders, with design elements for different styles and tones, and the best part is that the program will sort everything for you.

Eagle's browser extensions are also worth mentioning, especially if you occasionally snag an image or banner here and there to use as a starting point for your own designs. These extensions allow you to capture graphical content from any website and send it directly into your Eagle library. They work like desktop screenshot utilities, which means that you can capture what you see on a web page, a selected area, a particular picture on the page, and you can even capture the entire page from top to bottom. What's more, the software attaches the website's link to the captured content automatically, so you will always know where it came from, and find it easier to sort it.

Taking its smart filtering capabilities into account, as well as its highly efficient design, it's hard to argue that Eagle is anything else but one of the best solutions for managing an entire graphical design library.

Pros

The software comes with some advanced filtering options. You can filter content on the spot, and you can also use the same options to create smart folders. Eagle's browser extensions can help you retrieve new content faster and easier.

Cons

There are no obvious design flaws or functionality gaps to address.
